Ayubowan! I’m Sithum, the creator and local explorer behind Serendib Trails.
Why I Started Serendib Trails
Sri Lanka is one of the most breathtaking islands on Earth — from the misty tea highlands of Ella and Nuwara Eliya to the wild elephant corridors in Udawalawe and the legendary surf breaks of Arugam Bay.
However, when searching online, most travel guides are written by foreign bloggers who spent 5 to 7 days on the island on sponsored trips. They frequently recommend outdated train schedules, give inflated tuk-tuk estimates, or miss the true cultural etiquette required at sacred sites.
I created Serendib Trails to change that. I provide:
- Real, verified prices in both USD and LKR with exact dates checked.
- Honest transport guides: how to book official train tickets without scalpers, and when to use PickMe or Uber over street negotiation.
- Ethical wildlife guidelines: choosing responsible elephant gatherings and avoiding crowded tourist traps.
- Hidden, off-the-beaten-path locations: spots away from Instagram crowds where you can meet authentic local communities.
The Name "Serendib"
Serendib is the ancient Persian and Arabic name for Sri Lanka. The English word "serendipity" — the occurrence of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for — was coined directly from the Persian fairy tale The Three Princes of Serendip.
That serendipitous sense of wonder is exactly what I hope you experience when following my trails across our island.
My Editorial Promise to You
Every article published on this website is thoroughly researched and based on real ground-level experience. I never recommend a hotel, safari operator, or travel gear that I haven’t vetted personally.
